Dong Quai Extract – Discover the variant of the well-known Ginseng, but female
Dong Quai Extract (8:1) 300mg from Essentialseries is an extract from the root of the Angelica sinensis plant, the most naturally concentrated part in polysaccharides characteristic of this species, 8 times more concentrated through the use of extraction methods that do not harm the plant’s native composition, so you can enjoy an herbal extract with guaranteed safety and effectiveness.
Dong Quai is the female equivalent of Panax ginseng, especially for women. This doesn’t mean men cannot use it; it’s just that Angelica has specific properties for women’s health that have made it the preferred choice for females.
At HSN, we have developed a high-concentration Dong Quai extract, with all quality criteria maximized so that you can precisely know the functional and nutritional quality of the extract you are using.

High concentration extract – Prepared without the use of aggressive treatment agents
Angelica sinensis, colloquially known as Dong Quai, is a plant with a characteristic nutritional composition, which has made it a highly valued supplement in different Asian cultures where its preparations have been used for centuries by the indigenous population of the region.
Among the most appreciated compounds of the plant are the whole group of specific polysaccharides of Angelica; its composition includes:
- Decursin.
- Decursinol.
- Marmesin.
- Nodakenin.
- Ferulic acid.
And many more compounds, among which stands out the main characterization of Dong Quai: ligustilide.
The usual extraction treatment used in dietary supplements from many brands includes the use of ethanol and other aggressive solvents, which, while very effective in greatly concentrating the raw material used to prepare the extract, can significantly degrade its native composition. Therefore, no matter how concentrated the extract is, if its nutritional composition of bioactives is not in line, the extract is not effective.
After exhaustive research by our specialists, we concluded that the best way to obtain a high-quality Angelica extract was to use solvents that had no negative impact on the native composition of the plant; achieving an herbal extract of a not so high concentration, in this case, 8 times more concentrated than the original raw material, but with a guaranteed high content of Ligustilide and a spectrum of natural bioactives without degradation.
Standardized in the key bioactive of Angelica: Ligustilide
The traditional use of Angelica has led many scientists to be interested in its properties, and let’s explain this:
Plants have properties, for example: Coffee (stimulants) are not magical in themselves, but because they have naturally present elements that have these properties, sometimes, the properties of a plant are due to a combination of different compounds that naturally converge in the plant.
In the case of coffee, its properties mainly come from its caffeine content; however, with Dong Quai? Well, that was the question that scientific researchers asked themselves: What does Dong Quai have to have such valued roots?
The research group of Yang et al. (2019) confirmed it:
‘The volatile oil is one of the main effective components of A. sinensis, and ligustilide is the most abundant component in the volatile oil, accounting for approximately 60%’
Ligustilide is the main compound responsible for the attractiveness and interest aroused by the extract of Angelica sinensis, and therefore, we have worked specifically to select a Dong Quai extract that meets the condition of containing ligustilide in significant and stable amounts (standardized), so that whenever you use the extract, you can be sure that the functional quality of the product is always maximum.
100% Root Extract. We use only the most nutritionally valued part of the plant
The root is the part of Angelica that contains the highest content of natural oils, from which ligustilide is obtained.
Many companies market Dong Quai extracts prepared from parts of the plant that do not have the nutritional or functional recognition that the roots have, why? because they are cheaper.
At HSN, we have prepared our Angelica extract exclusively from roots; as our goal is to seek maximum nutritional quality and functional composition, we have only used roots as they are the part most concentrated in interesting compounds of the plant, without mixing leaves or stems, and with specialized care in the selection of the parts used, to only use roots that are in a good state of growth, at the point where their richness of characteristic compounds is at its maximum splendor.
Responsibly Cultivated Angelica – We use fair trade raw materials
Angelica sinensis is a plant native to Asian regions, where it grows naturally in high-altitude areas of characteristically cold regions, as it requires temperatures close to 0 degrees to develop fully at a functional level.
Cultivating plants in China, especially when aimed at developing functional products for commerce, is not always responsible. In fact, it is common for Asian companies and farmers to exploit areas full of plants and massively deforest them solely for commercial processing.
At HSN, we are committed to sustainable development, and we instill these values in all stages of our production process, including the selection of raw materials; which is why our Dong Quai extract comes from raw materials harvested responsibly, without agricultural exploitation or environmental aggression.
Developed in vegetable capsules without the use of unnecessary additives
We manufacture our dietary supplements in vegetable capsules for years, why?
Because we have deemed it appropriate that, when a product uses a raw material, for example, a plant extract, which is completely vegetable, it should be a product suitable for people who only consume vegetables in their diet: Strict vegetarians or vegans.
However, we have found that most supplements on the market use either gelatin in their capsules, which is an animal polymer and makes the product unsuitable for vegan diets, or additives such as anti-caking agents that come from animal derivatives, making once again, a vegetable product cease to be so.
At HSN, we do not use gelatin capsules for Dong Quai, nor do we use colorants, or additives that are unnecessary for the correct manufacture and preservation of the product; and all additives used are suitable for vegan diets, present in the smallest possible amount to achieve the desired technological effect.
A complete formula for hormonal balance: Dong Quai + Pyridoxine
We’ve talked about the nutritional characteristics and functional composition that characterizes Dong Quai, but not about its properties.
Dong Quai is considered very suitable for women, as some of its main properties are focused on women’s health, as it helps maintain women’s health and urogenital system health.
In addition to the positive effects on female urogenital health, Dong Quai has other additional positive properties, such as its characteristic adaptogenic effects, as it increases the body’s adaptation in extreme and stressful situations.
Furthermore, Dong Quai can be used for joint health.
On the other hand, the HSN formula has been supplemented with pyridoxine, or vitamin B6, a water-soluble vitamin from the B group, essential for maintaining good health, among others, hormonal health, as vitamin B6 helps regulate hormonal activity.

If I’m a man, can’t I use Angelica sinensis? What properties does it have?
This question, although it may seem strange, is not, and it is very common to ask, just like with products that are characteristically associated with use by males, such as Tribulus Extract or D-Aspartic Acid which raise doubts for women about their use.
There are no dietary supplements that can only be used by one gender.
It is true that Dong Quai is a plant more associated with women’s use, but due to its adaptogenic properties and effects on joints, it is beneficial for both sexes, so Dong Quai is also an herbal extract that can be used by men without any problem.
In men, its combination with Andean Maca and Panax ginseng extract is excellent.
